Getting Started
Review the steps below to request accommodations from CDS. New students are encouraged to request accommodations after completing New Student Orientation. Current students are welcome to submit requests at any time. Please note that it may take up to two weeks to review requests, schedule a meeting, and approve accommodations.
Step 1: Submit an Accommodation Request
Log into my.AUM.edu and navigate to “Accommodate Request Form” to complete your request. The form will ask you to:
Please review our documentation guidelines and prepare your documentation. If you are not sure what documentation is needed or what accommodations are right for you, we can help.
Step 2: Submit Documentation of a Disability
You may upload your documentation with your request form or submit it directly to CDS. Please refer to the documentation guidelines and let us know if you have any questions.
Step 3: Schedule a Meeting
Once we receive your request, we will reach out to schedule an appointment with you to determine your accommodations and go over our procedures. Please note that accommodations do not go into effect until this meeting is complete. It is the most important part of the process—we’ll talk about your specific experience, gather information about your academic program, and share information about additional campus resources as well as establish your accommodations.
Step 4: Using Your Accommodations
Submitting your Accommodation Request Each Semester
At the beginning of each semester, you’ll submit a request for each of the classes for which you’d like to use your accommodations. This step is easy and straightforward and only takes a few minutes. Remember, accommodations will not go into effect until CDS receives and reviews your request.
Scheduling Accommodated Exams
If your accommodations involve taking quizzes or exams in CDS testing rooms, please schedule your exams with CDS at least 48 hours in advance of the exam date. CDS will coordinate with your professors to make sure the exam is ready for you when you arrive. Please refer to the exam procedure provided to you during your accommodations meeting.
Talking with Faculty About Your Accommodations
At the beginning of the semester, after you submit your accommodation request, it’s important to reach out to your professors and confirm that they received your accommodation memo. This also gives you the opportunity to discuss the implementation of your accommodations in each class. If you would like CDS to guide you with this conversation, please do not hesitate to contact us.
