A degree from Auburn University at Montgomery will give you a number of career choices. As a graduate, you will be equipped to work in a variety of professional settings including public accounting, for-profit entities, government, and non-profit agencies.  The problem-solving skills and ethical awareness you develop at AUM will prepare you to earn professional certifications and professional leadership roles. In addition to the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a specialization in Accounting, AUM offers a Master of Accountancy degree (MACC) and an Accounting minor.

The Accounting program consists of six required core courses, designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills generally expected of all entry-level accountants, and two required accounting electives. Other electives allow you to tailor your educational experience based on your goals after AUM.

In addition to preparing you for entry-level positions in accounting and graduate studies, this program is designed to meet the education requirements to sit for the Certified Public Accountants (CPA) examination in Alabama.

Auburn University at Montgomery’s School of Accountancy is the only accounting program in Montgomery and the River Region to be separately accredited by AACSB International. AUM’s degree in accounting ranks in the top one percent of all AACSB-accredited programs in the world.

Do I want to go into public or private accounting?

Both public and private accounting are personal preferences. If you have the personality to help others public accounting would be a good path. If you prefer to work internally for a single company then private accounting would be the best pick.

Do I need a heavy background in math?

Not really. Addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division are basically all you need. But you need to be well-practiced at these.

What is the difference between accounting and finance?

Accounting focuses on the day-to-day flow of money in and out of a company or institution. Finance plans the future growth of a company by managing assets and liabilities within that company.

Begin your study in the College of Business with a strong foundation. Then customize your degree with intensive courses in Accounting, Finance, Information Systems, Human Resource Management, Management, Marketing or General Business. All degrees offered by the College of Business have achieved business accreditation by AACSB-International, the most prestigious business school accrediting body. In addition to a B.S. in Accounting, you will graduate with an AACSB accreditation. Only 1 percent of schools worldwide hold this special accreditation.

Modality

This degree requires students to meet on campus. Students in these courses enroll in a program to connect in a campus setting and to collaborate using a variety of technological and educational tools.
